I get tired of reading about freelancers making money, only to realize they’re relying on a partner’s income. I’m also tired of the MLM-ification of freelancing, where people claim it's easy to make six figures in six months (after buying a course, of course).
That brings us to two new initiatives we’re launching at Freelance Opportunities!: a new column and a rate database, built by you.
Coming Soon: Invoiced.
There are a million and one ways to make a living freelancing, and I want to start sharing them. Invoiced is a new column tracking how freelance and fractional workers make it work today—how they work, how they pay the bills, and how they plan for the future.
I’m looking for a full range of people to feature. I’m looking for people who make money through client work, side projects, and/or day jobs. I don’t want to just hear from people who have a partner’s income; I want to hear from people who live solely off of freelance income, people who are single and self-employed, and people who make it work without a safety net.
If your income is messy, you belong here!
After you submit an entry, I’ll contact you to schedule an interview. Everyone will be anonymous, but I’ll have questions for you.
Launching Now: Project Rate Database
Rate databases are important for benchmarking how much freelancers charge for certain types of work. I like referencing them when I’m quoting pricing for new projects.
This will be a searchable, crowdsourced collection of what freelancers charge by experience level and type of work. It just takes two minutes to submit your information!
