Prototipe is a production company that empowers independent journalists to develop their non-fiction stories for adaptation across the media landscape, including film, TV, and documentary/reality shows. We understand the pressures that independent journalists face when trying to get their stories told - and we help them navigate the adaptation process—from early development of their intellectual property (IP) through to the sale to networks, streamers, and film studios. We also believe the current pay structure—or lack thereof—for IP acquisition is outdated and detrimental to the field of journalism. At Prototipe, the journalist becomes our partner in their project.
If Prototipe accepts your idea for development, it means that we believe that your project has potential for adaptation, and you will immediately receive a $1,000 stipend. We know that most journalists don’t tell stories for the sake of money, but we are hopeful that the $1,000 stipend helps to relieve the burden of working on spec and allows journalists more freedom to dig into their research and investigations. Then, we work together in true partnership to develop a video trailer/sizzle and a pitch deck to take out to the media marketplace. If/when the project is sold to a major steamer, the journalist stays along for the entire ride and maintains editorial input, producorial credit, and of course, a share of the profits.
